Spend your honeymoon in Tenerife (Spain)
Off of the western coast of Africa, the Spanish Canary Islands are an oasis of unbelievable beauty for travelers. The island of Tenerife is the largest of the seven Canary Islands, and is the perfect destination for a honeymoon. With a tropical climate, fantastic sites, and Spanish culture, Tenerife offers an active paradise with a Spanish flair. Its beautiful beaches, world-class restaurants, interesting museums, volcanoes, eco-tourism, and UNESCO World Heritage sites provide an array of fun activities and adventure.
If you’re looking for incredible beaches, an active nightlife, and plenty of activities, the city of Playa de Las Américas is a great place to begin your honeymoon. Located on the southern coast of Tenerife, the city offers world-class resorts, perfect gold sand beaches, and deep blue tranquil water. El Camison and Troya beaches are two popular spots to spend a day in the sand. Both beaches have chairs and umbrellas for rent, as well as water sport activities. The beaches are located near the main promenade, so there are plenty of shops and restaurants if you need a break from the sun. For a more secluded spot, head a bit out of town to El Puerito beach. El Puerito is located in a tiny fishing village, away from the many people of Playa de Las Américas. The calm waters are perfect for snorkeling and diving, and you won’t be fighting for space on this relaxing stretch of sand. Besides amazing beaches, Playa de Las Américas has some of the best golf in Tenerife. Golf las Américas offers an 18-hole course in a green tropical paradise. The course is fairly difficult, but as you swing you will catch glimpses of the ocean, palm trees, and tropical flowers. At the end of your game, stop for a drink at the famous club house. The terrace overlooks the last hole, and has a fantastic view.
Relaxing at one of the many beautiful Tenerife resorts is not the only thing to do on your honeymoon. Tenerife is home to the largest national park in Spain, as well as the tallest mountain, and a visit to the park should not be missed. Teide National Park, located in the center of the island, consists of 18,990 hectares of beautiful wilderness and scenery to explore. The park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and attracts millions of visitors from all over the world. Many people come to the park to view the highest peak in Spain, Mount Teide. At 3718 meters high, Mount Teide is not only the highest peak in Spain, but also the third largest volcano in the world. A cable car runs up the volcano for visitors who want to take in panoramic views from the top. There are also helicopter tours available for people who prefer fewer crowds and more views. The park has plenty of places to find information on activities, and from the visitor’s center you can pick up hiking and cycling maps. There are many well-marked trails if you choose to venture out on your own, and daily guided tours if you prefer something more informative. A particularly popular tour is the “Teide by Night” tour, which focuses on the breathtaking star gazing opportunities at the park. For adventurous travelers, Teide National Park is a must see.
From breathtaking peaks to relaxing beaches, Tenerife has both beautiful sites and amazing culture. If you are looking for a honeymoon destination that has European culture in a tropical setting, look no further than Tenerife. With many romantic villages, gourmet restaurants, booming nightclubs, relaxing beaches, and natural wonders, the island is a unique piece of paradise waiting for you.
