Skiing in Europe

Europe is without a doubt one of the best places to go skiing in the world. Narrowing down your shortlist is a tough feat to achieve when you are spoilt with so much choice. Before you venture off down the slopes it is worth taking a number of factors into consideration when picking a resort—is it a holiday for friends or the family, what type of budget are you working with, is there a standout destination you want to visit.

Andorra is a very small country located in the Pyrenees Mountains between Spain and France. Andorra doesn’t receive worldwide attention or recognition for many things, but the skiing on offer in Andorra is sublime. There are a number of resorts which would take the fancy off most skiers, but I am going to draw your attention to Pas de La Casa. This resort has a total of 31 ski-lifts and enough ski runs to keep you entertained for weeks. For die-hard skiers who feel that 100km of runs is too minimal, you will be pleased to know that there is a ski pass which gives you access to both Pas de La Casa and Soldeu. Soldeu will bolster your skiing options with a further 35 accessible ski lifts and another 100km of ski runs.

Davos Klosters is a popular ski resort located in the eastern region of Switzerland. The Swiss Alps are glorious for skiing and Davos Klosters follows suit in that regard. There is over 300km of ski runs to be embarked upon. These runs are spread over five sprawling mountains, destined to keep skiers of an explorative nature content throughout their stay. The great thing about Davos Klosters is that you don’t have to limit yourself to skiing or snowboarding and this is ideal for families who want to keep the younger kids entertained with different activities. Some of the activities available include, skating, tobogganing and ice hockey. There are a number of ‘snowboarder parks’ for the people with the skills and the guts to try out some special tricks.

Inevitably such activities are costly but many ski resorts now allow you to pre book your kit, lessons, and mountain passes. That being said it is still important to make sure any payments you make overseas are completed in a safe environment. Private Banks now make it really easy for you to do transfer money internationally, for example, Foreign Payments service allow you to send money at a highly competitive exchange rate.

St.Anton is a fantastic ski resort, but it gets almost as much attention for the number of celebrities which frequent the area. It has a number of luxury hotels, in addition to beautiful chalets and apartments. Despite its lavish exterior, the skiing is truly phenomenal and will push even the most accomplished skiers to the test. There are a number of off-piste areas to go and hone your skills and find some interesting routes back down the mountain. If these areas don’t instil the fear inside of you, then Vullaga, the tallest summit of the mountain (2400km), will definitely give you the nerves. You can only attempt this run with a ski mountain guide in attendance, which is proof of how death-defying this run truly is.
