The Melbourne Cricket Ground

No matter how many Australians you speak to, they’ll always tell you that Melbourne is the capital of sport – and they’re not wrong either. Not only did this city play host to the Olympic Games as well as the Commonwealth Games, but it is also the home to the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground, the most iconic stadium in the whole of the country. Capable of holding over 100,000 spectators, this ground has held everything from Aussie Rules Football to Rugby, Cricket to Athletics, and for the beauty of the structure, ticket prices are very reasonable. If you do visit Melbourne this year, the tour of the Melbourne Cricket Ground is a must.

Sovereign Hill

Many Europeans won’t have heard of Sovereign Hill, but it’s extremely famous and important amongst Australians. Sovereign Hill was a very affluent area where gold was mined in abundance, from the local river to the nearby rocks. Tourists now visit it to get a glimpse of what life was like back in the 19th century, from panning for gold to checking out all the old steam locomotives that hauled it away. You can easily spend a day in Sovereign Hill, and there are lots of places to eat. There are even a few hotels if you want to stay the night too!

Phillip Island

If you love animals, then you’re sure to love Phillip Island. It’s a place where tourists can get up close and personal with their favourite mammals, and everything from Penguins to rare bird species can be found here. If you come early enough, you can even see the penguins returning from their fishing out in the ocean, and as long as you leave them alone, they’ll pass within a few feet of you, completely unphased! Be sure to bring your camera to Phillip Island so can savour the moment with your family.

When it comes to taking a holiday with your family, we understand how expensive it can be. However if you visit, you’ll be able to access some of the best flight deals online!

St Kilda Beach

A trip to Australia wouldn’t be complete without visiting a beach, and thankfully the one at St Kilda offers everything you need for a relaxing day. Located just a short drive or train journey from Melbourne city centre, the beach is lined with palm trees, and lush green grass surrounds the entrance from the main road. Although it can get a little busy during peak tourist season as well as on weekends, you’ll be able to find yourself a nice spot if you get there early enough.
