Landscape photographer of the year 2017: the UK’s best scenery – in pictures | Travel

Ullswater from Yew Crag, Lake District, Cumbria, England After two fruitless visits, a good forecast saw me driving to Aira Force, arriving at 6am to walk up Gowbarrow. By the time I reached Yew Crag, clouds started to appear. I took care to use the foreground and the shadowed hill to stop the eye on the left-hand side making Ullswater look like an enclosed patch of water. After waiting an hour until the boat – the 130-year-old Raven – appeared, I took the image. The best part was the wake creating a complex V behind the Raven.
