Best Italian Honeymoon Destinations
As we step into March the wedding season is reaching its first peak of the year with brides to be shopping around for the best deals, heading to wedding fairs, subscribing online and downloading the latest wedding planning app. But as we look endlessly online, in magazines and catch up with the girls, there is one destination that keeps coming back into the conversation, Italy. Personally I would love to get married in Paphos, Cyprus but with the expenses of flights and accommodation on top of an already excessive wedding budget it just isn’t financially viable and so Italy has become even more attractive to us.
With it being suggested and many friends having either gone to a wedding in Italy or indeed been married there with nothing but positive reviews, it definitely made me more confident in looking into getting married in Italy. After hours of debates with the future husband we finally agreed to start budgeting our wedding for Lake Garda, Italy. Within our budget we received a wedding package which we really couldn’t argue with which included –
- The Ceremony
- Our Marriage License
- Our Marriage Certificate
- The Registrar fees
- And flowers for myself and the groom – we sourced a local florist to help with bridesmaids, mothers and fathers in law and our flower girl (which was realistically affordable)
It is very true that the memories of your wedding day will last a lifetime and we were looked after so well from departing the UK and having champagne on the plane to arriving in Italy and having a breakfast reception for everyone there – luckily it was just close friends and family, the rest travelled in over the next week. We decided to arrive a week early to discuss the finishing touches and be able to relax before the big-day. We spent the first few days cake tasting which was set up by our wedding planner, as well as the suit and dress fittings – she even suggested wonderful places to go for lunch with the most breathtaking scenery.
The wedding day took place in Torri Del Benaco a resort within Lake Garda which allowed us to get married near to the Scaligeri Castle adding to the fairytale. We had the beautiful lake behind us making for the most magnificent back drop for our photos which just made everything so much more romantic – especially when the sun went down the water just glistened.
After our wedding our friend announced she too had decided she wanted to be married in Italy and so now, a year later, we are preparing to attend her wedding which is also in Lake Garda but staying in the resort of Malcesine which also allows her to visit the castle and receive the same wedding and honeymoon package we received. Getting married and having your honeymoon at one of the resorts available in the Italian lakes makes for one of the best experiences and memories you could ever imagine. It is affordable, friendly and more than accommodating for children, which can be a huge worry for parents when planning the day’s entertainment.
